Gene Jeanies

In the pile of fabric I got from my mom last year, there was this AMAZING 70s striped denim.

I just knew that it had to become these jeans from 1968.  I made View 2.

I saw my mom a few weeks ago and was wearing the jeans.

She gasped and said, "I made those exact pants once."
I laughed and told her that I used the fabric she gave me.

"Great minds think alike" she said.
"Good taste is in our genes?" I replied.

  1. That is awesome! The late '60s-early '70s gets a bad wrap for fashion but, much like these killer "genes," there are great examples of fashion from every decade. Nice work!

    1. Thank you Mr. Tiny! I agree this period gets a bad wrap but it's got SO much good! If anyone doesn't believe me, they must immediately watch the first three seasons of Mary Tyler Moore. All of Mary's clothes are fashionable, tailored and a bit conservative for the time, but completely gorgeous.

  2. I saw the pattern cover and cringed, and then scrolled down to smile. 'Killer' is the word, and the pun seals the deal. Slight 'Instamatic' photo vibe is just frosting.

    1. Thanks SJ! That's pretty typical, right? The pattern sleeve is drawn to be super groovy but the trousers are actually pretty great once they are made up. I'm tempted to try View 3 as well, which has an added side panel for bigger bells.

    1. Thanks Torry! I don't think that any other pattern in my stash that would have come out as nice. The pattern and fabric were made for each other.
